AI visibility measurement

How GEOrgina measures AI visibility

GEOrgina turns AI answer engines into a measurable channel by recording, engine by engine, how often a brand is mentioned, how often it is cited and which competitors take its place.

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is how often and how prominently a brand appears in answers generated by AI search and assistant systems such as Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT Search, Perplexity and Claude. It is the generative equivalent of search visibility: instead of counting ranked positions, it counts appearances inside the answer a user actually reads.

How does GEOrgina measure AI visibility?

GEOrgina measures AI visibility through recurring sweeps. A partner defines the questions that matter to its business, asks them in each AI engine on a weekly and monthly cadence, and records the outcome in the GEOrgina reporting tab: mentions, citations and the competitors that appeared. GEOrgina stores each sweep with its date and engine, so the result is a trend rather than a single observation.

What does an AI citation mean?

An AI citation is a source reference that an answer engine attaches to a generated answer, usually as a link. It means the engine retrieved that page, judged it reliable enough to attribute and gave the reader a route back to the site. A citation is the strongest visibility signal GEOrgina tracks.

What is the difference between a mention and a citation?

A mention is the brand name appearing in the answer text. A citation is the brand's own page being credited as a source. A brand can be mentioned without being cited, which usually means the engine learned about it from third party pages rather than from the brand's own site. GEOrgina records both figures separately because the fix is different: mentions without citations point to weak first-party retrievability.

How does GEOrgina track mentions across AI engines?

Every sweep is logged per engine, because the same question returns different sources in different systems. GEOrgina keeps the engines apart so a partner can see exactly where it is gaining ground, where a competitor dominates and which roadmap work moved the number after it shipped.

How does GEOrgina track competitors in AI answers?

For each sweep the partner records which other brands the engine named or cited. Over time this shows the share of answers a category holds, which competitor owns which question and whether a gap is closing. It is a practical substitute for the ranking table that does not exist in generative answers.

Why is web analytics not enough to measure AI visibility?

Most generative answers are read without a click, so analytics under-reports the exposure. Some engines do tag their referrals, for example ChatGPT appends utm_source=chatgpt.com to links it sends, which makes that traffic measurable, but a brand cited without a click still leaves no analytics trace. Recorded sweeps capture the appearances that analytics never sees.
