# How GEOrgina measures AI visibility

## What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is how often and how prominently a brand appears in answers generated by AI search and assistant systems such as Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT Search, Perplexity and Claude.

## How does GEOrgina measure AI visibility?

Through recurring sweeps. The partner defines the questions that matter, asks them in each AI engine on a weekly and monthly cadence, and records mentions, citations and competitors in the GEOrgina reporting tab. Each sweep is stored with its date and engine, producing a trend rather than a snapshot.

## What does an AI citation mean?

An AI citation is a source reference an answer engine attaches to a generated answer, usually as a link. It means the engine retrieved the page, judged it reliable enough to attribute and gave the reader a route back to the site.

## What is the difference between a mention and a citation?

A mention is the brand name appearing in the answer text. A citation is the brand's own page being credited as a source. Mentions without citations usually mean the engine learned about the brand from third party pages rather than from its own site.

## How does GEOrgina track mentions across AI engines?

Every sweep is logged per engine, because the same question returns different sources in different systems. GEOrgina keeps engines apart so a partner can see where it gains ground and which roadmap work moved the number.

## How does GEOrgina track competitors in AI answers?

For each sweep the partner records which other brands the engine named or cited, building a picture of category share of answers over time.

## Why is web analytics not enough?

Most generative answers are read without a click. Some engines tag referrals, for example ChatGPT appends utm_source=chatgpt.com, but a citation without a click leaves no analytics trace. Recorded sweeps capture what analytics never sees.
